Nyack floodplain on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River in Montana. This river skirts along the southern boundary of Glacier National Park and is one of the largest unconstrained rivers in the continental US. Alison Appling conducts her PhD research here where she studies the connections among river flow patterns, floodplain plant and soil communities, and water quality.
